Would You Like Another Breath Mint Please

August 3, 2015 //  by DairyLane

Garlic. Onions. Pizza. Coffee. What do these items all have in common other than the makings of a really good dinner? They can all cause bad breath! And as much as we all love a great meal, rest assured, no one likes bad breath, either coming from their own mouth or anyone else’s for that matter!

But bad breath can be caused by more than just food. Many people suffer from chronic bad breath (halitosis) regardless of what they eat. there are other issues such as stomach problems, infections in the respiratory system as well as dental hygiene that can all be contributing factors. it doesn’t matter what the cause is for the less than perfect smelling breath, the result is the same – having less than pleasant breath can affect both your professional and social life.

But don’t despair! Did you know that often a dentist can help you with your halitosis? Your dental practitioner can check the bacterial content of your saliva. If there is too much bacteria, it could be a sign of other issues and you may need a dental treatment to get you back on track.

There are also prescription mouth washes available. The over-the-counter products are good for the general public or if you are in a pinch. However, if it’s chronic bad breath, speak to your dentist as they may prescribe a higher quality rinse.

And sometimes it’s knowing simple tricks such as brushing your entire tongue (including the back) which can make a big difference.

So when it comes to halitosis, don’t hold your breath in hopes that it simple goes away. A simple conversation with your dental practitioner can help your bad breath become a thing of the past.
